Tears

涙: namida. To approach a fair exploration of reality, your renku should touch on life's joys as well as its sorrows. This category, "tears," reminds us to visit the very human realms of grief, suffering, depression, and despair. Renku is a ritual that seeks to free us of attachments not only to what makes us happy but also of our (sometimes pathological) attachments to our pain. In a renku, everything in life is considered, presented, and then passed by—left behind on the road to enlightenment.
