述懐: jukkai. Though renku (with it's "don't go backwards" rule) is predicated on the fact that the past cannot return, reminiscences and feelings of nostalgia are very much a part of human experience here and now. Feel free to dredge deeply for memories, and don't be afraid of being too personal. A rule of good poetry is that the personal is universal. No one is alone. Others have gone through, if not the exact same experience, something similar. Writing about memory means writing about what has made us, us, and what is continuing to shape us as people.
