Memorial Reading for Vaughn

November 22, 2008, members of the New Orleans Haiku Society gathered for a memorial reading in honor of Vaughn Banting (Aug. 23, 1947 - Oct. 11, 2008): bonsai master, haiku poet and friend.

The event took place at the Latter Library.

Carolyn brought the cups and laughter. We all agreed: Vaughn wouldn't want us to be sad.

Karel, our purveyor of chocolate.

David read some of Vaughn's haibun.

Juliet looking ethereal in the camera's flash.

Bill and Carolyn shared some of Vaughn's more provocative (shall we say dirty?) haiku.

Nice being in our regular meeting room. We felt he was there.

Around, around--his haiku, our memories.

Laura enjoying the jokes.

Carolyn drafted a librarian to take the group photo.

Goodbye, friend!
